ARTIST STATEMENT

I draw grids on canvas. Following the lines, I layer heavy brushstrokes of bulky masses acrylic paint by regular breathing and order. When the surface of over twenty layers shaved away revealing a multitude of vibrant colors hidden beneath, inner rhythm and outer structure are created at the same time. In the process, countless visual spaces are formed within the intersecting gridded lines. Each cell is like a beehive, and I discover a microcosm from each cell producing its own life in the realm.

About Internal Rhythm

With a conscience notion, either drawing or expressing in paintings, his transformative intentions questioning the origin of paintings gave birth to the 'Innate Rhythm' series. This can be seen as the result of his action or behavior. The 1993 transformation from Korean hanji to acrylic paint also depicts changes from surface expression to more phenomenon based portrayal and also from form to space structure. From 1995 onward, the artist piled layers of paint through the "Innate Rhythm" series as a means to express traces of his actions. Paint is deposited and then scrapped off and then the process is repeated again. Through this traces are collected and they become the final expression for innate rhythm. To explain more accurately, small grids are marked on the canvas similar to graph paper and paint is applied in layers. Once the paint is relatively dry a special knife is used to cut through horizontally and vertically. This is a process of revealing the layered paints in grids.

Kim Tae Ho has created a new method of operating space structures. The 'Innate Rhythm' series gathers free and versatile voices into one to introduce a new dynamic discipline. If the canvas is symbolic for the cosmos or the universe, the space has been interpreted subjectively is a creative method through the artist's actions.
